Tim Tynan: Head Instructor -
Wu Xing Taiji Boxing Alliance
Tim has over 30 years experience in the martial arts and combat sports, specialising in Tai Chi Chuan which he teaches from his private gym in the Bristol/Bath area of the UK as well as remotely. He has studied Yang and Wu styles and specialises in the nei kung aspect of the practice as well as Tai Chi sword.
He has been initiated into several Western esoteric traditions and combines this with the embodied practice of Tai Chi and Chi Kung, as a physical component is often missing from occult systems.
Whilst internal power training is a serious practice, Tim is a firm believer that it has to be a fun and passionate practice otherwise it will be unsustainable. He therefore does not hold any secrets back and seeks to establish the movements that students enjoy such that they develop a healthy addiction to the practice. He embraces their inspirations whether that is a specific training goal or an aspect of pop culture that they want to recreate.
Tim has a well defined approach to Tai Chi as a healing modality. Whilst some instructors would take the risky pseudo-medical approach, he is clear as to how Tai Chi is to be used to open up a student’s intuition so they sense what exercises would benefit their health and be guided through this by their instructor. When you slow down or you are still, the blockages in your physical structure are identified, giving you a somatic matrix to work with the corresponding emotional and mental states. Mastering the postures, movements and intent will lead to connectivity from the soles of the feet to the top of the head and beyond into the ether. This is what makes the practice so transformative.
In his spare time, his interests are animals, walking, paddleboarding, bouldering, theme parks and avoiding having his photo taken (as illustrated).
